Plan Your Study

IT STARTS WITH YOU

What do you want from your time at Haeata?

Before we talk about subjects, we want to understand you.

You do not need to have every answer.

That is what planning is for.

Your Interests

What do you enjoy learning about?

Your Strengths

What comes naturally to you?

Your English

What support will help you participate confidently?

Your     Goals

What would you like to achieve while you are here?

Your   Future

Where might you want this journey to lead?

CHOOSE THE JOURNEY THAT FITS

International students can experience Haeata in different ways.

You might come to experience New Zealand school life for a short time, spend a semester or year with us, or build a longer pathway towards graduation.

Whatever brings you here, we will help you make the most of the time you have.

SHORT EXPERIENCE

From a few weeks

Experience everyday school life in Aotearoa New Zealand, join Haeata classes, make new friends and become part of our community.

TERM OR SEMESTER

Study across the year while taking advantage of academic learning, leadership, sport, culture and wider opportunities.

MULTI-YEAR PATHWAY

Build towards your future.

Create a personalised senior programme connected to qualifications and your goals beyond school.

ONE CAMPUS. YEAR 1-13.

Haeata is one connected Year 1–13 community.

That means learners of different ages share the same wider campus while learning in programmes designed for their stage of development.

Years 1-5

Hikuawa

Explore. Build foundations. Grow curiosity.

Develop confidence, communication, relationships and a love of learning.

Hikuawa, refers to Orua Paeroa (Travis Wetlands) puna ako groups and spaces are named after living things found throughout, including Pūtakitaki, Mokomoko, Waikākariki, Toetoe, Pūkeko, Kotare, Te Oranga, Harakeke, Mōkihi, and Kokōpu.

Years 6-8

Kaunuku

Explore interests. Build skills. Try new things.

Begin making more choices while developing the knowledge, independence and confidence needed for senior learning.

Kaunuku houses our Year 5 – 8 ākonga and is a metaphor for the fast-flowing river. The puna ako groups and spaces are named after tributary streams to the Otākaro River and include Waimairi, Wairarapa, Waiwhetu, and Orakipaoa.

Years 11-13

Ihutai

Shape your pathway. Prepare for what comes next.

Build a more personalised programme around your subjects, qualifications, interests and future goals.

The Estuary is a nurturing environment, future focused, and a time that allows our rangatahi to hone their skills and prepare themselves for the years ahead

BUILD A PROGRAMME AROUND YOUR GOALS

At Haeata, planning your study is about more than filling spaces on a timetable.

We look at the whole learner.

Your interests. Your strengths. Your English. Your academic goals. Your future plans.

Together, these help shape your Haeata learning programme.

Depending on your Year level and pathway, your learning may include areas such as:

SCIENCE & INNOVATION

Explore how the world works through investigation, experimentation and inquiry.

You do not need perfect English before you arrive.

We help you develop the language, confidence and learning strategies you need to participate in school life and make progress in your subjects.

Support may include:

  • English-language assessment
  • specialist ESOL teaching
  • support within regular classes
  • individual learning goals
  • reading, writing, speaking and listening development
  • academic language support
  • regular review of your progress

English support is part of your learning pathway - not separate from it.

SOME OF YOUR MOST IMPORTANT LEARNING WILL NOT HAPPEN AT A DESK

Your Haeata experience can include much more than academic subjects.

Learning also happens when you take responsibility, try something difficult, serve others, perform, create, compete, explore and contribute.

LEADERSHIP

Build confidence through service, challenge and responsibility.

SPORT & PERFORMANCE

Develop skills, teamwork, discipline and confidence through sport.

HOSPITALITY

Gain practical experience in real-world hospitality learning environments.

SERVICES

Challenge yourself through outdoor learning, service and leadership.

BILINGUAL PATHWAYS

Learn through language, culture, identity and connection.

NEW ZEALAND EXPERIENCES

Extend your learning through adventure, community and life in Aotearoa.

START WITH TODAY.

PLAN FOR TOMORROW.

UNIVERSITY & TERTIARY

Build the academic foundation for further study in New Zealand or overseas.

EMPLOYMENT & TRADES

Develop practical skills and pathways towards employment, apprenticeships and vocational education.

SPORT & PERFORMANCE

Explore opportunities where sporting development can become part of your future.

GLOBAL OPPORTUNITIES

Develop the confidence, skills and intercultural understanding to study, work and contribute anywhere in the world.

You do not have to decide your whole future today.

Our role is to help you keep discovering what might be possible.

YOUR PATHWAY CAN CHANGE AS YOU DO

You may arrive knowing exactly what you want. You may discover something completely new. Both are okay.

As your interests, confidence, English and goals develop, your learning plan can develop too.

We will check in with you, help you reflect on your progress and support you to make informed choices about what comes next.

A pathway should give you direction - not lock you into one destination.
