THE CHALLENGE AT A GLANCE

Three Challenges. One Incredible Journey.

The national William Pike Challenge combines three experiences that encourage young people to try, contribute and keep learning.

5

Outdoor Activities

Explore new settings, practise teamwork and meet purposeful challenges.

20h

Community Service

Give time and energy to voluntary projects that benefit others.

20h

Passion Projects

Commit to learning a genuinely new hobby, skill or sport.

These are national programme requirements. Haeata’s current participation arrangements are confirmed by the school.

01 / OUTDOOR ADVENTURE

Adventure Begins Beyond the Classroom.

Five outdoor activities encourage ākonga to explore, collaborate and respond to new challenges. Experiences are selected and supervised through the school’s approved arrangements.

02 / COMMUNITY SERVICE

Make a Difference. Give Something Back.

Community Service invites students to think beyond themselves. From planting days to helping community organisations, the focus is on purposeful voluntary contribution.

Activities must meet the official programme requirements and be approved through the appropriate process. The examples above are not a list of confirmed Haeata projects.

03 / PASSION PROJECTS

Find Something New. Give It a Go.

A Passion Project is a chance to begin something genuinely new. With 20 hours of practise, ākonga can set a goal, discover a new interest and reflect on their progress.

Examples might include cooking, photography, weaving, music, gardening or a new sport. The activity must meet the programme’s requirements.
