Lead at Haeata

Challenge yourself. Serve others.

Take responsibility. Use what you learn to make a difference in the lives of others.

International students at Haeata in Christchurch can build leadership through challenge, service, real-world experiences and contribution.

At Haeata, leadership is not reserved for the student with a badge or a title.

It can begin with having the courage to try something unfamiliar. Noticing when someone needs help. Encouraging a teammate. Serving your community. Speaking up for an idea you believe in. Taking responsibility when something matters.

We believe leadership develops through experience. Students are given opportunities to challenge themselves, work alongside others, contribute and reflect on what they are learning about themselves.

You do not need to arrive at Haeata already thinking of yourself as a leader.

What matters is what you learn to do along the way.

Haeata Global Leadership Distinction

The Haeata Global Leadership Distinction represents the culmination of the leadership pathway.

It recognises a body of experience rather than a single moment: challenges accepted, service given, lessons reflected on, responsibility taken and leadership demonstrated.

The value is not simply in receiving recognition at the end.

It is being able to look back and see the difference between where you began and who you have become — more confident in yourself, more aware of others and better prepared to make a contribution wherever life takes you.

Every experience. Every choice. Every impact. Counts.

Your Haeata Leadership Passport is designed to tell the story behind your experiences.

Adventure. Service. Leadership. Challenge. Achievements. Reflections. Each becomes part of a record that grows as you do.

But the Passport is about more than recording what happened. It encourages you to stop and ask: What did I learn? What challenged me? How did I contribute? What would I do differently next time?

A stamp can record an experience. Reflection helps you understand what the experience changed.

Over time, the Passport becomes something personal - not simply a list of what you have done, but a record of who you are becoming.

Explore new interests, ask questions and build confidence through discovery.

Step beyond what feels familiar. Adventure, teamwork and personal challenge help you build resilience.

Put leadership into practice by contributing to others and strengthening your community.

Develop skills, take responsibility and learn through service, challenge and expedition.

Bring your learning together. Identify something that matters, take purposeful action and create a positive contribution.

The Capstone Leadership Project is where experience becomes action.

At this stage, a senior student brings together what they have learned through challenge, service, collaboration, reflection and leadership. They identify something that matters, think about what could be better, develop a response and work with others to put that idea into action.

The project is not about showing that you can manage something impressive.

It is about using leadership to make something better.

For an international student, that can mark an important change. You may arrive in a new country learning how to find your place. Over time, you can become someone who contributes ideas, supports others and helps shape the community around you.

Identify. Plan. Lead. Act. Reflect.

CONFIDENCE TO STEP FORWARD

Trying unfamiliar things, speaking up and taking responsibility can help you become more comfortable acting even when you do not have every answer.

RESILIENCE THROUGH CHALLENGE

Things will not always go to plan. Challenge gives you opportunities to adapt, keep going and learn what you are capable of when something becomes difficult.

PURPOSE THROUGH SERVICE

Leadership changes when the question shifts from “What can I achieve?” to “What can I contribute?” Serving others helps put responsibility and empathy into action.

A WIDER VIEW OF THE WORLD

Studying in Aotearoa alongside people with different cultures and perspectives asks you to listen, understand and think beyond your own experience. That is an important part of becoming a responsible global citizen.

WHERE COULD YOUR JOURNEY LEAD?

Leadership grows one decision at a time.

The challenge you accept. The person you help. The responsibility you take. The idea you decide is worth acting on.

Studying at Haeata can give you opportunities to discover what matters to you, contribute alongside others and build leadership through real experience.
