Kapa Haka

Poipoia te kākano kia puawai Nurture the seed and it will blossom.

At Haeata Community Campus, our goals in Kapa Haka are to develop a school-wide connection and celebrate our students and their learning through kapa haka. We do this by creating learning stories, allowing ākonga the opportunity to lead and enjoy kapa haka when they come.

Kapa Haka ā-kura has seen a massive growth in leadership and engagement over this year through building connections and positive relationships with kaupapa Māori. Our senior student leaders consistently support us throughout the term helping with setting up, facilitating, leading and growing our ākonga.

Pasifika

O le tele o sulu e maua ai figota Through collaboration, the most difficult challenges can be overcome.

Haeata Community Campus is a place where your Pacific children, students and young people will thrive. By studying with us they will be supported with strong support networks to help them prepare for a successful life and career in a vast range of fields. Having a strong parent connection and community engagement is important for us at Haeata.

“Pasifika cultures and values run deep in the veins of Haeata Community Campus. Our ākonga participate in many events all throughout the year that allow them to embrace and participate in the diverse cultures of the Pacific. Our Pasifika group from Years 7-13 explores a variety of dances and stories of the Pacific and they perform them all throughout the year, including one of the biggest Pasifika events of the year in Ōtautahi, Polyfest. They perform their hearts out on stage.

Our Pasifika group also celebrates the Pacific language weeks and has the privilege of performing in our community.

We also hold an annual Pasifika Fiafia night towards the end of the year. This is an opportunity for our ākonga, their family and the community to come together and celebrate the success of our ākonga.”

The Pasifika hub is a space dedicated for Pasifika students and is the heart of learner life on campus. It provides them with a real sense of belonging.

We also offer a strong Pasifika Culture group, a well-rounded Sāmoan language teaching course and an ESOL personalised strategy; that allows adaptation to learning programmes, acknowledging diversity all our whanau bring and flexible to ensure all ākonga are able to be active members of their learning journey at Haeata.
